Varo: «Mi single trata de una relación tóxica a la que te aferras como un clavo ardiendo»

Entrevistamos a Varo, un joven cantante que entra en el mundo de la música y que nos presenta un single cargado de sentimientos encontrados.

Álvaro Jimenez, más conocido como Varo, es un cantantante español que ha venido a dar guerra y a poner patas arriba la industria musical. Tras En Mi Zona y Como Lo Hacíamos, presenta Me Quema, una canción con la que el artista tiene muy claro que va a hacer lo imposible por darse a conocer y abrirse el hueco que merece en este mundillo.

¿Cómo estás viviendo el confinamiento? ¿Qué cosas vas haciendo para pasar estos días?

Aburrido, cada día más. Pero la salud muy bien, que es lo importante ahora. Para entretenerme voy usando mucho WhatsApp e Instagram. Ya de por sí los uso bastante, pero ahora más todavía. También veo series en Netflix y películas. Justo antes estaba terminando de ver un capítulo de Élite, que me la recomendaron. La Casa de Papel también la veo por las noches.

A parte de todas las cosas de ocio a las que dedicas el tiempo, ¿Vas componiendo?

Sí. Grabar ahora no puedo, pero componer sí. Cuando viene la inspiración sale solo. No sé ni yo de qué maneras me suele venir a mí la inspiración. Normalmente suele ser cuando productores me envían alguna instrumental para temas nuevos, yo me las escucho y hay veces que voy con la calma, pero otras me inspiran un montón y empiezo a escribir. Yo siempre trabajo con las bases y a partir de allí ya voy haciendo la letra.

Hace poco sacaste ‘Me Quema’, tu tercer tema después de ‘En Mi Zona’ y ‘Como Lo Hacíamos’, ¿De qué trata este último single y cómo te inspiraste?

Yo en mis canciones suelo tirar por el amor y el desamor y, en este caso, quise reflejar una situación que hemos pasado todos alguna vez o pasaremos en un futuro, que cuando llega alguien y es una relación un poco tóxica y la cosa se complica. Lo tóxico te acaba enganchando. También puede ser alguien del pasado que hayas perdido y te quieres aferrar a eso como un clavo ardiendo.

¿Cómo estás viendo el recibimiento del tema?

Bien. Lo sacamos por Spotify, aprovechando un poco esta situación que estamos viviendo. Como no puedo grabar videoclips ni nada, porque eso ya me supondría salir a la calle, la única alternativa que me quedaba era sacarlo por ahí, por Spotify. En cierto modo me ha venido hasta bien, porque si que es verdad que en Youtube estaba la cosa funcionando perfecto pero faltaba ese pequeño empujoncito con Spotify, que lo abrí hace poco y hasta ahora no estaba recibiendo el apoyo que yo me esperaba. Con este tema la verdad es que la cosa ha subido un poquito.

¿Cuándo empezaste a grabar ‘Me Quema’? ¿Has tenido problemas con el hecho de estar en confinamiento?

Esta canción llevaba ya grabada bastante tiempo. No es que yo vaya por orden y sea de grabar algo y sacarlo. A veces voy al estudio y grabo una, otras grabo cinco y voy almacenando. Cuando veo que llega el momento de sacar algo lo hago, pero no tiene porque ser la última que haya grabado, puede ser cualquier otra. Esa canción ya llevaba grabada un par de meses pero nunca vi la manera de cómo sacarla y a acabado surgiendo ahora.

¿Eso quiere decir que tienes más canciones guardadas que todavía no has sacado?

Sí, tengo guardadas entre 10 y 20. No creo que saque todas, porque al final hay muchas que a lo mejor entre sí se parecen o tampoco quiero sacar dos canciones que suenen igual. Al final es una elección y suele salir solamente una. Es ir escuchándolas entre mi productor y yo y ver cuál gusta más y cuál menos.

¿Tienes alguna idea en mente para el videoclip de ‘Me Quema’?

Si te digo la verdad, no. Soy un poco malo para eso de tener ideas para un videoclip. Por ejemplo, cuando grabé ‘En Mi Zona’, yo escribí al chico que lo grabó y le dije que quería hacer el video y él me preguntó por la idea que tenía yo. La contesté que no tenía ni idea. Se lo dejé un poco a su cargo. Lo único que tenía claro eran los sitios, lo que ya no me meto nunca es en temas de la historia que quiero contar en el video o los planos, porque se me da muy mal y siempre lo dejo un poco al que graba o al que lo va a montar, que al final tienen más idea.

¿Cómo definirías tu estilo?

Nunca sé que contestar, porque tan pronto saco este tema que suena más comercial, como en el siguiente te saco uno de rap. Me gusta hacer un poco de todo, aunque va todo ligado al género urbano pero yo no tengo ninguna etiqueta.

¿Cuándo empezaste con todo esto de la música?

Muy pequeño. Con 14 o 15 años, pero era todo muy diferente. No grababa canciones, simplemente era que todos mis colegas rapeaban y nos juntábamos en la calle, uno ponía una base y yo era de los pocos que aún no rapeaba. Un día un colega me dijo que probase y yo le dije que eso no era lo mío. Al final un día me animé y le fui cogiendo el gusto cada vez más. Ya no fue solo improvisar, también fue crear una letra. De allí hasta hoy. Cuando empecé más a tratar con productores y a meterme en estudios de grabación fue con 16 o 17 años.

¿Cuáles son tus referentes musicales? ¿Te gustaría hacer alguna colaboración con alguno de ellos?

Escucho muchísima música en ingles. Referentes de aquí me encanta Maikel Delacalle, Rels B y C. Tangana, que antes no me gustaba y ahora sí. También escucho música de Dellafuente, aunque no suelo escuchar muchísima música en español.

Ojalá hacer alguna colaboración con alguno de ellos. Si tuviera que elegir, sobre todo con Maikel.

Recientemente también vivimos la iniciativa del apagón cultural, en el que muchos artistas dejaron de subir contenido a sus redes ¿Tú cómo lo viviste?

Yo seguí subiendo igual. Yo soy un poco raro en ese sentido, porque tan pronto estoy todo el día subiendo stories, como puedo estar tres días sin subir nada. Hay veces que apetece más y otras menos, pero sí, me enteré de lo que sucedió. En parte entiendo la reivindicación, pero por otra parte no porque tampoco creo que haya que pagar la frustración con la gente que nos sigue.

Entiendo que en esta situación los artistas en esta situación somos un motor de entretenimiento muy fuerte y en determinados aspectos no se valora al 100% ese aspecto, pero por otro lado nadie tiene la culpa de lo que estamos viviendo ahora.

¿Cuáles son tus futuros proyectos?

Sí. Tengo un montón. Lo siguiente me gustaría que fuera como un videoclip. Ya cuando volvamos a la vida “normal”, veremos como lo vamos planteando. Seguro que va a ser algo muy del rollo de este último tema.

El hecho de sacar un disco lo he tenido en la cabeza siempre. He tenido varios intentos de hacerlo, pero a la hora de la verdad no me he visto del todo convencido para hacerlo. Tengo un montón de canciones, pero al final soy muy crítico con mi música y hasta que yo mismo no lo considere, no creo que lo haga. Espero que sea pronto.

Por último, ¿quieres añadir algo o contarnos algún detalle o anécdota?

En mi primer videoclip, ‘Como Lo Hacíamos’, salen un chico y una chica que eran pareja real pero ahora ya no. Hay gente que a lo mejor se piensa que cogí un chico o una chica que no tenían ninguna relación real pero sí, son amigos míos y en ese momento eran pareja.
